The death of a 3-year-old child this weekend in Roxborough has been declared a homicide, police said, and while investigators said yesterday that someone was in custody for the death, they remained tight-lipped about whom they have charged.
The investigation into the 3-year-old boy's death early Saturday morning was being handled by the Special Victims Unit until it was taken over yesterday by homicide investigators, police said. The toddler was discovered unresponsive by his mother's boyfriend at 3 a.m. Saturday in his bedroom inside a home on Houghton Street near Jamestown, near Roxborough Memorial Hospital, police said. The boy was taken to that hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:11 a.m. His identity and the cause of his death have not yet been released.
21 DEAD, 2 HURT IN BAR SHOOTING
A triple shooting outside a Nicetown bar early yesterday left one man dead and two others hospitalized, police said.
About 2:05 a.m., three 22-year-old men were shot outside the Rose Lounge on Hunting Park Avenue near Germantown, police said. The first man, whose identity was not released, was shot once in the back of the head and pronounced dead at 2:32 a.m. at Temple University Hospital, police said. The second victim, who was shot in the right arm, and the third victim, who was shot in the left elbow, walked themselves to Temple, police said. Both of those men remained at the hospital yesterday in stable condition.
Authorities did not have a suspect or a motive for the shooting as of last night.
3MAN SHOT IN NECK IN OLNEY
A man remained in critical condition at Albert Einstein Medical Center last night after an early-morning shooting yesterday in Olney.
The 30-year-old victim was shot once in the neck on Tabor Road near 4th Street at 12:37 a.m., police said. A suspect and a motive for the shooting remain unknown, police said.
4MAN KILLED IN DOUBLE SHOOTING
A North Philadelphia man was killed in a double shooting in Hunting Park early Saturday, and police are still searching for a motive for the bloodshed.
Gary Jones, 24, of York Street near 9th, was shot once in the chest on Park Avenue near Erie about 1:55 a.m. and pronounced dead at Temple University Hospital at 3:11 a.m., police said. A 20-year-old man who was with Jones was shot twice in his chest but managed to survive the shooting, according to police. That man was listed in critical condition at Temple last night, police said.
52 TEEN GIRLS STABBED IN S. PHILLY
Two teen girls were stabbed Saturday evening after a brawl in South Philadelphia, police said.
The girls, 15 and 17, were fighting with a group of five to 10 other teen girls about 5:30 p.m. on 4th Street near Washington Avenue when the 15-year-old was stabbed twice in the back and the 17-year-old was cut on her forearm, police said. Both were taken to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, where they were listed in stable condition.
Police said there have not been any arrests in the case.
6MAN CRITICAL AFTER SHOOTING
A 21-year-old man remains in critical condition at Temple University Hospital after being shot multiple times in North Philadelphia on Friday night.
The man was on Roy Street near Germantown Avenue about 11:05 p.m. when he was shot, police said. His companion, a 21-year-old man, was also shot once in the right leg but was listed in stable condition at Temple. Police said that they have no suspects in the shooting.
