AT KING OF PRUSSIA MOTEL

A man injured trying to get away from Upper Merion police early Saturday morning will be charged with aggravated assault and related counts when he is released from the hospital, police said yesterday.

The still-unidentified man and three other men jumped from a second-floor window of a King of Prussia motel when officers responded to a report of a disturbance Saturday.

The man got into a dark-colored Toyota Corolla and crashed it several times into an occupied police vehicle and then into the Motel 6 on West Dekalb Pike about 1:45 a.m., police said.

He almost hit another officer standing nearby, which prompted that officer to fire his service revolver at the man, missing him, cops said.

The man was shot with a stun gun and arrested when he got out of the car and tried to run away, police said.

The man, in his 20s, was being treated at Paoli Hospital for his injuries, police said.

2CHASE STARTS IN DELCO,

ENDS WITH 1 DEAD IN PHILA.

A chase sparked by the theft of a truck's tailgate in Delaware County ended with a deadly collision in Southwest Philadelphia, police said.

Tinicum Township police received a report about the stolen tailgate at the Wyndham Garden Hotel in Essington about 11:30 a.m. yesterday, and were told a green 1997 Chevy Tahoe fled the scene.

About 30 minutes later, police found the Tahoe on Route 291 and when they attempted to stop it, the driver fled, cops said.

According to Tinicum police, spike strips were laid out on Bartram and Island avenues in Philadelphia.

The Tahoe ran over the strips, ignored a red light at the intersection and collided with a 1999 Chrysler 300 carrying a man and a 36-year-old woman, police said.

Both were found bleeding and unconscious and were taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where the man, who had been driving, was pronounced dead.

Police had not identified the man as of last night.

Although the Tahoe rolled on its side, police said the 46-year-old male driver fled and was apprehended by nearby witnesses.

The suspect and a passenger, a 43-year-old woman, were treated for their injuries at Hahnemann University Hospital.

Police said that the Tahoe was stolen out of Philadelphia and that charges for the driver are pending.
