Aside from the Lawncrest Civic Association, neighbors said opportunities to interact and organize with others in the Lawndale and Crescentville areas are limited.

Tom Dowling was a member of the neighborhood's Town Watch until it lost funding and disbanded this year.

He said low participation was a contributing factor, although the neighborhood's population has grown by more than 2,000 in the past decade, according to the Census Bureau.

Kevin Dow, chief operating officer of the city's Commerce Department, said officials are working to establish a business association in Lawndale.

Dow, who said the idea is still in the organizing stage.

He said a business association would help the city engage with neighbors and the civic association, help foster a better business environment in Lawndale and help business owners get better acquainted with neighbors and each other.
