A man in police custody yesterday was questioned in a series of knifepoint rapes in Kensington but has not been charged, a police spokeswoman said last night.

Police had been on the lookout for a man driving a white Volkswagen Jetta after a woman reported she was assaulted in a car on Nov. 14 on Kensington Avenue near Somerset Street. A week later, two more women said they were attacked several hours apart in the same area.

A year ago, three women were raped and murdered in the same area by a man who was dubbed the Kensington Strangler. In January, Antonio Rodriguez, 21, was arrested and confessed to all three murders.
