A NEWBORN girl spent the first few hours outside her mother's womb Wednesday lying in a cardboard box on Huntingdon Street near Sergeant, in North Philadelphia.

The yet-unnamed baby - early contenders could be Noel and Boxanne - was healthy and resting in a hospital yesterday while cops searched for the woman who left her on the street.

Church members doing community service in the neighborhood found the girl about 10 a.m. near a day-care center, police said.

She was wrapped in a red-and-white houndstooth-patterned blanket, a brown women's sweater from Casual Corner, a black bathrobe with pink polka dots and a large peach-colored bath towel, police said.

Medics rushed the baby to St. Christopher's Hospital, and doctors told police the girl showed no signs of injury.

The baby weighs about 5.5 pounds and was only a few hours old when found, cops said.

She will be placed in foster care once she is discharged from the hospital, said Officer Tanya Little, a police spokeswoman.
