A WOMAN WHO WAS driving drunk Saturday night in Northeast Philadelphia swerved to miss a ball in the street and instead hit four people, including a mother and her two children, police said.
One of the children, a 5-year-old girl, was critically injured in the crash. That child's 2-year-old brother, her 36-year-old mother and another 33-year-old woman were hospitalized in stable condition, according to police.
The driver, Erika Williams, 28, was speeding in a 1994 Oldsmobile down Anchor Street near Summerdale Avenue in Summerdale about 10:54 p.m. when a ball rolled into the roadway in front of her, police said.
Williams swerved to miss the ball but hit the 5-year-old girl, and the car jumped the curb, hitting the other three pedestrians, police said.
The children were taken to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children. The little girl suffered a severe leg injury, and her brother had a dislocated pelvis, authorities said.
The two women were treated at area hospitals for complaints of pain and were listed in stable condition.
