Man, 21, shot 'execution-style' in N. Philly store

A 21-year-old man was shot and killed execution-style inside a North Philadelphia store Monday, police said.

A 21-YEAR-OLD man was shot and killed execution-style inside a North Philadelphia store yesterday, police said.

Officers responded to multiple calls of a shooting at My City FJ Super Market on Susquehanna Street near 19th about 4:50 p.m. They found the victim inside with multiple gunshot wounds to the head, face, chest and abdomen. The victim, whose name was not released, was rushed to Temple University Hospital and declared dead 30 minutes later.

Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said ballistic evidence revealed at least 14 shots had been fired inside the store from a semiautomatic handgun - most at close range - indicating the victim was likely targeted. Investigators also reviewed surveillance footage from inside the store, which had about 10 customers and employees inside at the time, Small said.

"The shooter walks in, pulls a gun, shoots the victim who is inside the store talking on a cellphone," Small said. "The victim runs down one of the aisles and the shooter follows him. As the victim lays on the floor, our shooter stands over him and continues firing shots. It was execution-style."

The shooter, who was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt covering part of his face, fled, Small said. He said several people were taken to the Homicide Unit for questioning.

Hours after the shooting, about a dozen people had gathered outside the store and placed candles along a windowsill. They declined to talk.
