Car hits trolley, driver dead

A MOTORIST hit a trolley head-on near SugarHouse Casino yesterday afternoon. The car's driver was killed, while one trolley passenger reported minor injuries.

The crash happened just after 1 p.m. on Delaware Avenue near Frankford as the West Philadelphia-bound Route 15 trolley left SEPTA's station near the casino, SEPTA spokesman Manny Smith said. Six or seven passengers were on board, Smith added.

A police spokeswoman said the car's driver, a woman who remained unidentified, was speeding when she hit the nearly stationary trolley. Paramedics declared her dead on the scene at 1:15 p.m.

Service was briefly suspended.
