Shuttle buses were put into service in wake of fire near Front and York streets in Kensington.

ATWO-ALARM fire at three stores near Front and York streets in Kensington shut down SEPTA's Market-Frankford Line last night, police said.

The fire erupted at 5:26 p.m., according to Fire Department communications. At 6 p.m., it went to a second alarm as thick, dark smoke billowed from the Dollar Discount store and two others to the El tracks above.

Shuttle buses were running through the night in place of Market-Frankford El trains between Berks and Huntingdon streets, SEPTA Police Chief Thomas Nestel III said.

No injuries from the fire were reported. Firefighters were still at the scene battling the blaze late last night.
