SEPTA offers late-night transit service on New Year's Eve

Local, regional rail lines to operate well into the night and early morning to bring carousers home.

NEW YEAR'S EVE revelers won't be the only ones staying up late tonight. Your trusty public-transit provider will be running into the wee morning hours to help merrymakers get home, well after the clock strikes midnight.

SEPTA spokesman Manny Smith said that trains will run more frequently during the late-night/early-morning hours on New Year's Eve, including the Broad Street and Market-Frankford lines as well as regional rails.

"Because we know there will be an additional crowd, trains will be operating every 20 minutes," he said.

Subway lines will offer all-night train service beginning at 12:01 a.m. tomorrow, with additional trains on both the Broad Street and Market-Frankford lines after the 7 p.m. and midnight fireworks shows on the waterfront.

Regularly scheduled all-night bus trips on the OWL network will also be available, operating on a Sunday schedule. Regional rail lines will run on a regular weekday schedule, with special additional trains departing Center City after the New Year's celebrations.
