Tacony-Palmyra Bridge reopens
The Tacony Palmyra Bridge, a drawbridge that was stuck open most of the morning, is now reopened to traffic, according to the Burlington County Bridge Commission, which operates it.
The bridge became stuck overnight to let a vessel pass. As a result, all lanes had to be closed and detoured on Route 73 on both the New Jersey and Pennsylvania side of the bridge.
Crews managed to get the two leaves down as of a little after 10 a.m., but the bridge was not yet open to traffic. The bridge finally reopened about 11:45 a.m.
The Tacony-Palmyra Bridge opened in 1929 and is 84-years-old. With its $2 tolls, the bridge is a popular alternative to other New Jersey-Philadelphia bridges operated by the Delaware River Port Authority with its $5 tolls.
