Dan Gross: Yo, Ryan: Lose the beard!

RYAN HOWARD needs a shave. As superstitious as baseball players can be, we were surprised that the Phillies slugger, who owned the plate during the NLCS series, had grown a beard for the World Series. He's been struggling in the Series. Could it be coincidence, or could the facial hair be to blame? Either way, we hope to see the dangerous batter go beardless tonight.

'Double Dare' host helps wrap 'Booted'

Marc Summers, known to millions as the host of Nickelodeon's "Double Dare," shot a few scenes for the indie comedy "Booted," which wrapped yesterday.

In the film, Summers plays the Daily News food critic, who goes out to sample hot dogs being cooked on the engine of a Ford.

Why? Because a guy's car was booted and he must sell hot dogs to raise money to have the boot removed before his girlfriend dumps him.

Summers, producer of "Unwrapped" and "Dinner Impossible," on Food Network, moved here four years ago but fell in love with the city in the '80s, when "Double Dare" shot here.

The film is directed by Shaun Paul Costello and produced by Joe Gariffo; Tommy Avallone, digital coordinator at 94 WYSP and director of "Community College"; John Guarnere; Frank Vain, and Derek Lindeman, who wrote the screenplay.

CBS 3's Ukee Washington, NBC10's Glenn "Hurricane" Schwartz and Lori Wilson, 94 WYSP's Spike, filmmaker Doug Sakmann and Your Humble Narrator all shot cameos for the film.
