The Philadelphia Zoo celebrated its seventh annual Global Conservation Gala on Oct. 27 at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown. The gala honors those who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, dedication, and achievement in the world of conservation. More than 525 board members, friends, and supporters enjoyed cocktails and a sit-down dinner. Honored at the event were this year's Conservation Impact Award recipients, Raj and Kamla Gupta, longtime zoo members and major investors in the future of the zoo. The gala, which raised more than $700,000, celebrated the Guptas and their Ujala Foundation, an organization committed to humanitarian and environmental issues and created to make positive change in the world. The Guptas were honored for their unwavering commitment to humanitarian and environmental causes, as well as their dedication to social justice, diversity, and mentorship of others.
