LEAP Academy University Charter School in Camden held its 17th annual Rutgers University Alfredo Santiago Endowed Scholarship fund-raising gala Dec. 2. The scholarship was established by Gloria Bonilla-Santiago in memory of her husband and is awarded annually to eligible LEAP graduates based on academic merit and financial need, with an emphasis on increasing diversity at Rutgers. More than 220 attended the gala, held in the atrium at the Curtis Center in Philadelphia. The evening included cocktails, dinner, and a program honoring community-minded leaders Daniel H. Hilferty, president and CEO of Independence Blue Cross; Susan N. Story, president and CEO of American Water; and Joseph H. Jacovini, a partner at Dilworth Paxson LLP. The gala raised $300,000 for the scholarship fund.
