What became of Ralph Rucci brand? This.

A womenswear line named Sies Marjan that debuted Sunday during the New York Fashion Week's fall 2016 collections had the fashion industry all abuzz.

A womenswear line named Sies Marjan that debuted Sunday during the New York Fashion Week's fall 2016 collections had the fashion industry all abuzz.

The clothing, a voluminous work of layered separates in tropical-hued pastels, was designed by former Dries Van Noten designer Sander Lak, under the direction of Joey Laurenti.

By all accounts, the show was heralded as a success. Vogue editor Anna Wintour attended, as well as a few buyers from Barney's.

Some of my favorite architectural pieces: a lemon yellow crush velvet coat and a paper bag brown sweater that reminded me of origami.

And here's why Philadelphian's should care about such a new, experimental fashion brand:

Sies Marjan is what came from the Ralph Rucci brand after South Philadelphia's Ralph Rucci, one of the most revered and respected men in the fashion industry, was forced to leave his company.

It started in 2011 when Rucci went into business with billionaire investors Howard and Nancy Marks. After years of rumored  infighting, Rucci left in 2014 his brand and name behind, now owned by the Markses under the name Deia L.L.C.

The good news is: Rucci is planning to show a new line under the name RR331 Tuesday evening.

In the meantime, I'm guessing Sies Marjan will do phenomenally well. The clothes are edgy and it's only a matter of time before celebrity endorsements (something Rucci refused) and Vogue shoots come along.

But the truth remains: Without Rucci, there likely would be no Sies Marjan.
