A former New York City police dispatcher was sentenced yesterday to five years in prison for arranging to have sex with a 14-year-old named "Angie," whom he planned to meet at the Deptford Mall.
Angie, however, was the creation of law enforcement authorities, who documented propositions and pornography in telephone conversations and e-mails used to convict Ira Shimshi, 56, of New York City. Among the e-mails he sent to Angie were two videos depicting child porn, authorities said.
Shimshi showed up at the mall in August with condoms and a camcorder and was arrested.
Shimshi, who has been in federal custody since, pleaded guilty to a two-count indictment in February and was sentenced yesterday by U.S. District Judge Joseph E. Irenas in Camden. He was also ordered to register as a sex offender and remain under supervision for 10 years after his release from prison.
