Two Philadelphia men have been charged in the Valentine's Day robbery of a South Street jewelry store and a subsequent shoot-out with the store's owner, police said yesterday.
Rashad Hamed, 23, of the 2100 block of Master Street in North Philadelphia, and Daniel Moore, 22, of the 1300 block of Pennwood Avenue in the city's Overbrook Park section, were charged in the robbery of Diamond Heart Jewelry at 404 South Street. A third suspect is being sought, police said yesterday.
Police said three gunmen entered the store at about 7:10 p.m Wednesday, and seized $5,000 in cash and about $200,000 in jewelry. The robbers then shot at the store owner before fleeing. The owner, who was not wounded, fired at the robbers, apparently striking Hamed and Moore, police said.
About 20 minutes later, police were flagged down by a woman who reported that two men who appeared to be shot were in a car in the 2000 block of North College Avenue in North Philadelphia. Police took the men to area hospitals, and later found an "assault-type weapon" and a bracelet near the car.
The store owner later identified Hamed and Moore as two of the robbers, police said. The jeweler said the bracelet was among items taken from the store.
Hamed and Moore were listed in stable condition at Hahnemann University Hospital, police said. They were charged with robbery, aggravated assault and other offenses.
