L. Providence to review hotel complex proposal

A revised zoning ordinance amendment that would clear the way for a new Revolutionary War museum, hotel and conference center near Audubon is expected to be reviewed tonight by the Lower Providence Township Planning Commission.

A revised zoning ordinance amendment that would clear the way for a new Revolutionary War museum, hotel and conference center near Audubon is expected to be reviewed tonight by the Lower Providence Township Planning Commission.

The planners rejected the amendment last month, and this version offers little improvement, critics of the proposal said. The National Parks Conservation Association said the amendment would "allow extensive and incompatible development on historic land at Valley Forge National Historical Park." Township supervisors are expected to vote on the amendment Sept. 6.

The museum complex would be built by the American Revolution Center, a nonprofit organization that terminated its congressionally authorized partnership with Valley Forge and the National Park Service in January. The original proposed site for the museum was near the park Welcome Center.

The meeting is at 7:30 p.m. in the Township Building, 100 Parklane Dr., Eagleville. - Nancy Petersen
