A Bucks County woman who said relentless verbal attacks drove her to stab her husband with an 8-inch folding knife has been sentenced to 28 months to 5 years in state prison.
Ann Marie Albert, 50, of Buckingham Township, said she regretted the attack on Dec. 13, which was witnessed by the couple's 10-year-old son, who called 911. She said James Albert was vindictive, expected "sex on demand," and tried to turn their son against her. "His behavior drove me crazy," she said.
"I believe you were sorely provoked by an intemperate, bullying, hectoring spouse," County Judge David Heckler said during Wednesday's sentencing. "However hurtful, however reprehensible his actions, your retaliation was wrong."
James Albert, 57, suffered lacerations to his liver and diaphragm and internal bleeding, and spent 10 days in a hospital. He urged the judge to send his wife to jail. "She looked me right in the eye and smiled before she did it. I swear to God, I thought she was kidding," he said. "I have concerns that she may try to finish the job." - AP
