A major water-main broke around 10 p.m. Sunday in the Northeast near the intersection of Willits and Ashton Roads, according to fire officials.

News videos showed water still rushing down the streets of the neighborhood an hour later, and fire officials said crews were working to contain the break.

John Digiulio, spokesman for the Philadelphia Water Department, said the problem was found in a 24-inch main and emergency workers were trying to determine whether there was structural damage.

Officials said workers with the Department of Licenses and Inspections were heading to the scene to determine whether an evacuation was required.
