MEDIA As part of Victim's Rights Week, the Delaware County District Attorney's office will honor supporters of Nicole Gallo. Gallo was a graduate of Archbishop Prendergast High School and a member of the Lebanon Valley College track and field team. She was killed by a distracted and intoxicated driver.
On Aug. 14, 2009, Rachael Jankins' car struck the 19-year-old Gallo, of Clifton Heights, and Christine Bochanski, then 20, as they walked outside Delaware County Memorial Hospital. Bochanski, of Lansdowne, needed surgery for a broken back.
Donna and Steve Gallo, Nicole's parents, will be recognized for establishing a scholarship in memory of their daughter aimed at girls who want to continue their Catholic education. They have raised $35,000.
Lindsay Wolf, a 1998 graduate of Archbishop Prendergast, will be honored for heading up a 5K run in Nicole Gallo's memory.
Bochanski and Upper Darby police and other first responders will also be recognized for their continued support of the Gallo family.
Jankins, of Haverford Township, was sentenced to 41/2 to 10 years in prison.
