Police ID 'person of interest' in love-triangle hit-and-run
Collingdale police say Conroy Williams is the owner of a Range Rover that deliberately struck Joel Witherspoon Saturday morning
POLICE IN Collingdale, Delaware County have identified a person of interest in what they believe was an intentional hit-and-run that left a borough man seriously injured.
Investigators want to talk to Conroy Williams, the owner of a black Range Rover that allegedly mowed down Joel Witherspoon, 36, early Saturday morning outside his home on Bedford Avenue.
"It would behoove him to come and talk to us," Collingdale Police Chief Robert Adams said of Williams, of Philadelphia.
Adams said a detective interviewed Witherspoon yesterday at Crozer-Chester Medical Center and Witherspoon provided Williams' name. Williams is believed to have a child with Witherspoon's ex-girlfriend, according to Adams.
"Our information leads us to believe that he's the driver and the owner" of the Range Rover, Adams said of Williams.
Police say Witherspoon - reportedly a former member of the defunct rap duo Philly's Most Wanted - was struck by the Range Rover about 5:30 a.m. Saturday. He suffered severe head and leg injuries and required extensive surgery. The SUV driver also smashed into other vehicles before fleeing.
"He was lying in wait," Adams said of the driver. "There might be some premeditation there."
Meanwhile, Collingdale police are still soliciting tips in last month's fatal hit-and-run at Clifton Avenue and Spruce Street.
Tipsters should call 610-586-0502.
