Open house to discuss bridge improvements in two townships

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will host an open house Wednesday on proposed improvements to a structurally deficient bridge on Route 926 in Birmingham and Pocopson Townships, according to a news release.

PennDot has plans to improve Route 926 where it crosses over the Brandywine Creek, and is considering replacing the existing 77-year-old bridge, officials said. The new structure would be higher, requiring the roadway approaches to be rebuilt and raised.

The current bridge carries approximately 13,200 vehicles a day, according to the release.

The open house will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Pocopson Elementary School, 1105 Pocopson Rd., Pocopson Township. A presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a question-and-answer session following at 7.
