A PENNSYLVANIA state trooper died last night after he was shot accidentally at a Montgomery County training center, authorities said.

Trooper David Kedra, 26, on the force since June 2012, was shot just before 5 p.m. at the Montgomery County Public Safety Training Center, on Conshohocken Road near Academy Drive in Plymouth Township, State Police Commissioner Frank Noonan said in a statement.

Kedra, stationed at Troop K's Skippack barracks, was struck in the chest and was airlifted to Temple University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead soon after arriving at the hospital's trauma center, officials said.

"He died serving the people of the commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and the men and women of the Pennsylvania State Police mourn his loss and extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends," Noonan said.

Kedra was the 96th member of the State Police to be killed in the line of duty, Noonan said.

Cpl. Gerald McShea, a spokesman for the State Police, said the training center includes a firing range that troopers use for yearly marksmanship tests, in which Kedra was participating at the time of the shooting.

The State Police and the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office were investigating the incident.
