Cheltenham Township police officer was injured Thursday morning when a car slipped on the icy road service and hit him while he was setting up flares at an accident scene in the Wyncote section of the township.

Officer Phil Degliomini, 50, a 7-year veteran of the force and a former Philadelphia police officer, was reported in stable condition at Abington Memorial Hospital with internal injuries.

Cheltenham police said Degliomini was placing road flares at the scene of an accident near Washington Lane around 6:20 a.m. when the driver in a northbound car lost control of his vehicle on the icy road, police said.

The car struck Degliomini and threw him to the side of the road, police said.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the officer remained at the scene and was cooperative, police said. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
