A woman was arrested Tuesday for a deadly hit-and-run in Thorndale earlier this month.

Gina Marie Bennett, 48, of Coatesville, turned herself in to police Tuesday, the day police got a warrant for her arrest. She has been charged with homicide by vehicle, driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance, reckless driving, and related charges.

Police say Bennett struck and killed 19-year-old Ke'asya Gray of Coatesville on the night of Dec. 4 as Gray was walking in the 3400 block of Lincoln Highway in Thorndale. Bennett fled the scene, police said.

Police found Bennett's car at a local automotive repair shop the next day.

Many in the Coatesville community were frustrated by the lack of an immediate arrest. Police said they had to determine who was driving the car at the time of the accident.

"Our investigators worked diligently and methodically to build a strong case and bring a coward and a killer to justice," Joseph Elias, chief of the Caln Township Police Department, said in a statement.

Bennett has been released on $300,000 unsecured bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 4.
