A woman was killed Tuesday when she was struck by a speeding tow truck that fled the scene in Northeast Philadelphia, police said.
At 5:18 p.m. in the 8100 block of State Road, the woman was crossing the street when a black tow truck heading north at a high rate of speed hit her, police said. The tow truck did not stop.
The woman, who was believed to be about 45, was transported to Aria Health-Torresdale Campus, where she was pronounced dead at 6:38 p.m. The woman's eyeglasses and broken pieces of the tow truck's headlights were left in the street, Chief Inspector Scott Small said. No further description of the tow truck was available. - Robert Moran
