Update: Overbrook slaying victim ID'd

The victim was identified Friday as James Patrick Stuhlman, 51, of the the 6600 block of Woodcrest Avenue.

A 51-year-old man walking his dog was fatally shot Thursday night in the city's Overbrook section during an apparent robbery attempt, police said.

He was identified on Friday as James Patrick Stuhlman, of the the 6600 block of Woodcrest Avenue.

About 8:50 p.m., police responded to reports of gunshots to the 6400 block of Woodcrest Avenue, where they found the man lying on the ground unconscious, a block away from where he lived. The man was still holding his dog's leash in one hand and a flashlight in the other, police said.

Police transported him to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 8:57 p.m. He had been shot in the right side of his chest. Police believe robbery may have been the motive for the shooting. No arrests were reported. The dog was being kept by a neighbor overnight. - Robert Moran
