Family and friends were to gather at Haverford College on Saturday afternoon to remember Cayman Naib, the Shipley School eighth grader who was found dead last Sunday.

Cayman, 13, had been missing for four days until police found his body in a snowy creekbed on the family's property in Newtown Square. An autopsy showed he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

In a statement on the "Celebrating Cayman" Facebook page, the Naib family expressed gratitude to the hundreds of people who helped search for him and the thousands who have supported the family on social media.

The memorial, they said, would be private "to allow family, friends, the community, and his classmates to grieve and reflect in a more quiet and intimate way."

The memorial was to begin at 2:30 p.m. in the athletic center at Haverford College.

Donations can be made to Main Line Animal Rescue, Box 89, Chester Springs, Pa. 19425.
