There's an elevated fire risk in the Philadelphia area Thursday, the National Weather Service is warning.

Wind gusts of up to 30 mph, combined with "low relative humidity and rapidly drying fine fuels" are likely to lead to a greater risk of wildfires Thursday afternoon across most of New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland's Eastern Shore, the weather service says.

People are encouraged to be careful if burning any materials outside or in discarding smoking items.

Forecasters say an otherwise breezy, pleasant spring day is in store in Philadelphia: The area should expect sunny skies and a high temperature near 65 degrees.
