Cops probe string of scooter thefts in South Philly

Authorities are looking for the culprits behind a series of scooter thefts, mostly in South Philadelphia. Philadelphia police said 17 scooters have been reported stolen since the beginning of April. Most happened in various parts of South Philadelphia, but a few were also reported in Center City and Queen Village.

Philadelphia police said 17 scooters have been reported stolen since the beginning of April. Most happened in various parts of South Philadelphia, but a few were also reported in Center City and Queen Village.

Investigators on Wednesday released surveillance footage of the suspects and a van they have used.

The thefts have occurred between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m., police said. The thieves have cut the locks and chains of the scooters to steal the vehicles, which were typically parked and secured in front of residences.

Surveillance video shows three white or Hispanic men operating a white Ford Econoline van that had the stolen license plate HDV 9933.

Six of the stolen scooters have been recovered in Camden, police said.

Thefts have been reported on the following blocks: 2400 South Sartain Street; 2400 South Alder Street; 300 Tasker Street; 1800 South Bancroft Street; 800 South 6th Street; 2500 South Kimball Street; 1800 South Juniper Street; 1000 South 25th Street; 1700 South 13th Street; 800 South 4th Street; 300 Queen Street; 1200 South Philip Street; 1700 Locust Street; 1800 South Newkirk Street; 400 Wolf Street; and Jackson and Carlisle Streets.
