Jim Bailey, 77, the Philadelphia-born singer-actor who transformed himself into such showbiz legends as Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand during a career that spanned decades, died Saturday in Los Angeles of complications from pneumonia.

Jim Bailey, 77, the Philadelphia-born singer-actor who transformed himself into such showbiz legends as Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand during a career that spanned decades, died Saturday in Los Angeles of complications from pneumonia.

Mr. Bailey grew up in the Philadelphia area, graduating from Riverside High in Burlington County. He attended the Philadelphia Conservatory of Music - now part of the University of the Arts - before moving to New York, where he got jobs in chorus lines and summer stock.

He performed at New York's Carnegie Hall, London's Palladium, and in showrooms in Las Vegas and Atlantic City. In one notable engagement, he impersonated Garland alongside her daughter Liza Minnelli.

He appeared the Ed Sullivan and Carol Burnett variety shows and was a guest 14 times on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.

He also had guest-starring roles on TV series including Ally McBeal, The Rockford Files, and Here's Lucy. - AP
