Man, 25, critically wounded in Olney hit-run

Police say Emmett Toohey was run down as he tried to cross Roosevelt Boulevard early Wednesday.

AN EARLY MORNING hit-and-run yesterday critically injured a man nearly 24 hours after another, similar accident grievously injured a prominent Philly actor.

In yesterday's hit-and-run, Emmett Toohey, 25, was struck by a dark-colored vehicle about 1:30 a.m. as he was crossing Roosevelt Boulevard near Front Street in Olney, police said.

Toohey was walking in the crosswalk against the red light when he was hit by the car, described as either a Honda or Acura that sped away from the scene.

Medics took the victim to Einstein Medical Center, where last night he was in critical but stable condition. The impact broke Toohey's pelvis, shattered his left leg and caused severe bleeding in his brain, police said.

Investigators last night were looking for surveillance footage of the crash in an attempt to get a better description of the striking vehicle.

The incident came not long after Michael Toner, 68, was run down early Tuesday while trying to cross Market Street near 11th in Center City.

Toner's right leg was amputated as a result of his injuries. Police last night were still hunting for leads in that hit, for which they had no information on the suspected driver.
