Florence B. Watson, 71, of Glenside, a retired human resources official, died Friday, June 12, of complications from dementia at home.
Mrs. Watson was born in Philadelphia, the daughter of Julia Jones and Walter D. Jones.
Called Florrie by family and friends, Mrs. Watson graduated from John W. Hallahan Catholic Girls' High School in 1961.
Taking into account her life experience, she was able to earn the equivalent of a bachelor's degree and also a master's degree in human resources from Lincoln University in 1985.
Early in her career, she was employed by Bell Telephone Co. of Pennsylvania. She moved on to Merck, Sharp & Dohme, from which she retired in 2002 after 16 years of service. Her specialty within the human resources department was recruiting researchers for the firm.
Mrs. Watson did volunteer work for her church and for the National Association of University Women's scholarship committee. She chaired the committee, raising funds so that Philadelphia youths could get a college education.
Mrs. Watson enjoyed reading, tournament bowling, travel, cookouts, and holiday events.
"Holidays always included food, laughter, love, and a game of cards," said her family in a tribute.

A life celebration is to be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 19, at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church, 2340 W. Lehigh Ave. Burial will be private.
