City officer charged with assaulting girlfriend

A 41-year-old Philadelphia police officer was charged Thursday with assaulting his girlfriend in May. Officer Michael Alice, who was assigned to the elite Highway Patrol unit, surrendered at the Internal Affairs Bureau and was charged with simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, unlawful restraint, false imprisonment, and two counts of violating an order for protection from abuse.

A 41-year-old Philadelphia police officer was charged Thursday with assaulting his girlfriend in May.

Officer Michael Alice, who was assigned to the elite Highway Patrol unit, surrendered at the Internal Affairs Bureau and was charged with simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, unlawful restraint, false imprisonment, and two counts of violating an order for protection from abuse.

Alice, a 12-year veteran of the force, and the woman were at their home on May 24 when a verbal argument escalated to a physical assault, police said. Police Commissioner Charles H. Ramsey has suspended Alice with intent to dismiss. - Robert Moran
