Two adults and a dog were rescued from a sailboat reported on fire Sunday morning about three miles off the Jersey Shore near Ocean City, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

The boat's operator issued a Mayday call at 10:49 a.m. after noticing heavy, dark smoke coming from the engine room, First Class Petty Officer Neena Santiago said.

The 42-foot boat's passengers moved onto a small dinghy to await rescue by a 25-foot response boat about 10 minutes later. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation, Santiago said.
