Two adults and a dog were rescued from a sailboat reported on fire Sunday morning about three miles off the Jersey Shore near Ocean City, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.
The boat's operator issued a Mayday call at 10:49 a.m. after noticing heavy, dark smoke coming from the engine room, First Class Petty Officer Neena Santiago said.
The 42-foot boat's passengers moved onto a small dinghy to await rescue by a 25-foot response boat about 10 minutes later. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation, Santiago said.
The sailboat was engulfed in flames when the marine unit of the Longport Police, Ocean City Police, and N.J. Coast Guard reached it. - Sarai Flores
