The Philadelphia Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of a blaze at a Chestnut Hill high-rise apartment building early Saturday morning that left an elderly man dead.

The fire was reported at 1:15 a.m. at the Chestnut Hill Tower Apartments in the 7600 block of Stenton Avenue.

Fire officials said Saturday that the 80-year-old victim was found in one of the apartments and was transported to Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities did not release his name.

The fire broke out on the top floor of the 18-story building, and only residents of that floor were evacuated, fire officials said.

The blaze was declared under control at 1:50, and no other injuries were reported, officials said.

A woman in the rental office at the apartment building declined comment.

Eagle Rock Advisors L.L.C., a New York City real estate firm, bought Chestnut Hill Tower Apartments in January for $24.5 million.

The complex has 220-plus units and occupies more than five acres.
