Sun Valley band earns state championship
ASTON The Sun Valley High School marching band continued its run of excellence, this year taking the top prize.
The Marching Vanguards finished first at the Cavalcade of Bands state championships Saturday in Hershey.
The band, which last won the state championship in 1981, has placed in the top three for the last four years, according to Christa Fazio, a spokeswoman for the Penn-Delco School District.
Under the leadership of music director Tim Pry, the band performed its "Witch and Famous" routine, beating out 11 other groups to take first place. The band also took home special awards for "high visual and overall effects."
"When it counted, they pulled out all the stops and left everything they had to give on the field," Pry said of the performers. - Mari A. Schaefer
