to become marketplace
NORRISTOWN A food pantry is to be rededicated Tuesday morning as a facility at which patrons can select their own food.
The Catholic Social Services' Montgomery County Family Service Center food pantry is to become Martha's Choice Marketplace.
The change marks a shift in the pantry's method of distributing food. Instead of simply receiving food, patrons will "shop" for it at the market.
"The marketplace replaces the perceived stigma of needing food assistance," said Elizabeth Peteraf, the program administrator for Catholic Social Services in Montgomery County.
The Montgomery County center, on East Johnson Highway in Norristown, is the largest food distribution program in Montgomery County.
Its rededication is to be held Tuesday at 10 a.m., with a blessing led by the Rev. John J. McIntyre, auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. - Laura McCrystal
