Five people, including a pregnant woman, were injured in an accident involving a stolen car that burst into flames Wednesday evening near the Montgomery Drive exit of the Schuylkill Expressway, police said.

Shortly before 6 p.m., a black Toyota Altima stolen from a 7-Eleven store in Northeast Philadelphia the previous morning was speeding eastbound on the expressway when it exited at Montgomery Drive, said Lt. John Walker of Southwest Detectives.

On Montgomery Drive, the Nissan crashed into a Hyundai Santa Fe occupied by a man, his five months pregnant girlfriend, and her mother. They were transported to Hahnemann University Hospital, where the mother was in critical condition and the couple were in stable condition.

The 16-year-old male driver of the Nissan and a 20-year-old male passenger ran from the vehicle but were apprehended a short time later. They were taken to Hahnemann complaining of pain. The pair were facing three counts each of aggravated assault and a stolen-vehicle charge. - Robert Moran
