Two women and two young children were injured just after 5 p.m. Saturday in West Philadelphia when they were struck by a van as they tried to cross Parkside Avenue near 49th Street, police said.

Accident Investigation Division officials said the 1996 Dodge van, driven by a 78-year-old man, was trying to get around a double-parked car when it struck the pedestrians.

The victims' names were not immediately available. The AID officials said that the women were 25 and 30 years old, and that the children were 2 and 6 years old.

The women were taken to Presbyterian Hospital, where the 30-year-old woman was listed in critical condition Saturday night; the 25-year-old was in stable condition.

The youngsters were taken to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, where the 2-year-old was in critical condition and the 6-year-old was in stable condition.

According to AID officials, the women and children had just left a birthday party at the Parkview Banquet Inn and were walking toward their car when they were struck by the van. No DUI or fleeing-the-scene charges were involved, police said.
