Bomb threat made at Lincoln High School

Student arrested yesterday after he allegedly claimed that there would be an explosion at his school, Philadelphia police said.

A 17-YEAR-OLD Lincoln High School student was arrested yesterday after allegedly claiming that there would be an "explosion" at his school, a Philadelphia police source said.

Lincoln High, on Ryan Avenue near Rowland in Mayfair, was placed on lockdown about 10:15 a.m. after officials learned of the bomb threat, according to Fernando Gallard, a spokesman for the school district.

The teen suspect hand-delivered the threatening note to a school police officer, claiming he found it in the second-floor boys' bathroom and wanted to turn it over immediately, the police source said.

Its message was simple: "There will be an explosion at 1:30 today," according to the source.

Homeland Security and Philadelphia Police swept the school and the lockdown was lifted 45 minutes later at 11 a.m., Gallard said.

During the investigation, officials realized the note's author was the teen who had initially handed it over to them, sources said. The teen later admitted writing the note, they said.

Investigators from the Northeast Detective Division arrested the teen, whose name wasn't available last night.

The case was handed over to the District Attorney's Office, and charges were pending last night. Cameron Kline, a spokesman for the D.A.'s office, declined to comment on the case.
