Cops: Homeowner fatally shoots robbery suspect

A Crescentville homeowner fatally shot a man the homeowner told police was trying to rob him in his house overnight.

A Crescentville homeowner fatally shot a man the homeowner told police was trying to rob him in his house overnight.

Philadelphia police officers were called to the residence on the 6100 block of Reach Street shortly after 11:30 p.m. Monday.

The 27-year-old male homeowner fired at least four shots at the suspected robber, Chief Inspector Scott Small told reporters at the scene.

The 35-year-old suspect collapsed, and was pronounced dead at 12:04 a.m. Tuesday.

Officials didn't immediately identify either man.

Small said investigators found a substance believed to be marijuana and several hundred dollars in the home's basement.

Two women who live in the house also had guns, but investigators don't believe either fired at the alleged robber, he said.

The investigation is continuing.
