A teenage boy was found shot to death inside a car Friday night in North Philadelphia, police said.

The boy, possibly 15, was discovered in the back of a 1998 Lincoln Town Car shortly after 7 p.m. in the 2400 block of North Park Street, said Chief Inspector Scott Small. The boy was pronounced dead at the scene by medics, who believed the boy had a gunshot wound to the head. The scene was being held for investigators.

Family members of a 15-year-old boy reported missing Wednesday from Upper Darby found the body in the car and believed it was him, though his head was covered by a hood, Small said. The family used to live in the neighborhood.

The car was filled with debris, so it was unknown whether there was a gun inside. Small said the death was regarded as suspicious pending further investigation. - Robert Moran
