Police are investigating the killing of a man who was shot to death in his car in East Mount Airy.

Officers were called to a report of gunshots on the 400 block of Vernon Road at about 11 p.m. Wednesday, Philadelphia police said.

They found a 37-year-old man in the driver's seat of a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix, suffering from gunshot wounds to his torso.

Neighbors reported hearing gunfire just before hearing the Grand Prix slam into parked cars, authorities said.

The shooting victim was taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center, where he died. The man, whose name was not released Thursday morning, was pronounced dead at 11:25 p.m.

The motive for the shooting remained unknown Thursday.

No arrests were made and police had no description of any suspects.
