Cops: Robber targets women at bus stops

Police are looking for an armed robber who has been targeting women at bus stops in East Mount Airy. Between Dec. 6 and Monday, six women have been robbed of their cellphones at gunpoint at bus stops near Thouron Avenue and Upsal Street, police said.

Between Dec. 6 and Monday, six women have been robbed of their cellphones at gunpoint at bus stops near Thouron Avenue and Upsal Street, police said.

The attacks all happened during the morning hours and police suspect that the same person is responsible for the robberies.

The incidents happened on Dec. 6 at 8:12 a.m. at Lowber and Upsal streets, on Dec. 9 at 6:51 a.m. at Cedarbrook and Upsal streets, on Dec. 17 at 11:30 a.m. at Thouron Avenue and Phil Ellena Street, on Dec. 18 at 8 a.m. on the 1300 block of East Sedgwick Street, on Saturday at 7:42 a.m. at Cedarbrook and Upsal streets and on Monday at 8:35 a.m. on the 1200 block of Easton Road.

Police described the suspect as a black man in his early to mid 20s, 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall with a light complexion and facial freckles, discoloration or a mole. He has a medium build and has worn a dark hooded sweatshirt and dark pants.
