Cops: Store owner fatally shoots robbery suspect

A store owner in Philadelphia's Hawthorne section fatally shot a man who tried to rob the corner shop Monday morning.

A store owner in Philadelphia's Hawthorne section fatally shot a man who tried to rob the corner shop Monday morning.

Philadelphia police said three men entered Miss Jessie's Stop N Shop on the 900 block of South 12th Street around 8:30 a.m. with a gun and announced a robbery.

The store owner then opened fire, police said.

One of the men was shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene at 8:44 a.m. His name was not immediately released.

A second suspect, a 22-year-old man, was taken into custody while the third escaped though was possibly injured.

Police didn't immediately identify the store owner.

Two weapons were recovered at the scene, authorities said.
