Hugh M. Lasch, 47, of Mount Laurel, a former Lumberton gastroenterologist, died of complications from atrial fibrillation on Friday, Jan. 15, at home.
He was the son of Hugh C. Lasch, a 27-year veteran of the Philadelphia Police Department, who worked as a patrolman in the canine unit, said the senior Lasch's brother, Clifford..
"He was on the mayor's detail" for a couple of administrations, Clifford Lasch said, and retired from a unit at Philadelphia International Airport.
Dr. Lasch was a 1986 graduate of St. Joseph's Preparatory School and earned a premed bachelor's degree at the University of Scranton in 1990.
He graduated in 1994 from Jefferson Medical College and spent his internship at Georgetown University from 1994 to 1996.
After completing a fellowship in internal medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1998, Dr. Lasch was a staff physician with Gastroenterology Consultants of South Jersey in Lumberton until 2015.
"He was very quiet, laid-back, a gentle soul," his uncle said. "He was dedicated to medicine and his work."
Clifford said Dr. Lasch "liked what he did with a passion, worked many long hours at it, and was well respected in his field."
David Chasen, a pediatrician who was a Jefferson classmate and a friend for 25 years, said Dr. Lasch "was a very kind, generous, caring individual."
A member of Chasen's wedding party, Dr. Lasch "was a good golfer" and played "a guitar, for himself."
Above all, Chasen said, "he cared deeply about his patients and coworkers."
Besides his uncle, Dr. Lasch is survived by a sister, Lori Trapani; a niece; and a nephew.
A visitation was set from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22, at the Healey Funeral Home, 9 White Horse Pike, Haddon Heights, before an 8 p.m. Catholic blessing there. Interment is to be private.
