Cops on alert after woman loses gun while running

Police are asking Abington and Upper Dublin residents to be on alert after a woman reported that she lost her gun while running.

Abington police said the woman said she lost the firearm while running Saturday evening in the Ardsley and North Hills sections of the two townships.

Officers used police search dogs and metal detectors to search along the woman's reported route, then conducted a secondary search on Monday, but didn't find the gun in either effort.

Officials didn't identify the woman or say what type of gun was lost.

Police say residents should notify authorities if the firearm is found. Parents should remind their children to not touch guns.
