After a four-hour standoff with police Friday afternoon, a Bensalem man surrendered and was taken into custody, police said.
Mark Fleming, 36, barricaded himself in his trailer on Clive Avenue after police attempted to serve him with an arrest warrant around noon, said Bensalem Public Safety Director Fred Harran.
Fleming had been charged with shooting at someone in November, and was out on bail awaiting trial. Earlier this week he allegedly threatened that person with a gun again, prompting police to obtain another warrant for his arrest, Harran said.
Police believed Fleming was armed with an AK-47 rifle, but said he never displayed or fired a weapon. Police were searching his home Friday afternoon, Harran said.
Bensalem police and the Bucks County South SWAT Team responded to the scene, where Clive Avenue and Dunksferry Road were closed off.
Nearby residents were evacuated but returned to their homes around 4 p.m., Harran said.
Police told employees at Daniel C. Tanney, Inc., a metal fabrication company on Clive Avenue, that there was an "armed suspect" in the area around 1 p.m. and told them to stay inside, said CFO Jim Tanney.
He described seeing about 30 police cars and SWAT officers on the street.
Shifts at Tanney's business changed at 2:30 p.m., and he said most workers were able to come in and leave through a different entrance. Those parked near Clive Avenue were temporarily stuck at work, he said.
